Social Relations

Welcome to the Department of Social Relations.
As an academic unit of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the Department of Social Relations (DSR) was established on June 1, 2005, and ever since its genesis, it has been playing a key role at East West University. With highly qualified and dedicated academic staff members, it has a solid research base, with interests spanning a wide area of theoretical and applied issues. The department is known for providing high-quality teaching and personal attention to students. Faculty members of the department are committed to the interdisciplinary ethos and culture.
The global demand for public health in academic and research institutions, hospitals and other health related institutions is increasing rapidly at home and abroad. The nation strongly requires public health studies to safeguard the wellbeing and health of the populace, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Multidisciplinary public health programs are urgently needed for Bangladesh to create awareness, tackle unsustainable population growth, and develop the public health system. Keeping this in mind, the Department of Social Relations operates with the following programs:

  1. 4-years Undergraduate program: Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSS) in Population and Public Health Sciences (PPHS)
  2. Graduate program: Master of Population, Reproductive Health, Gender and Development (MPRHGD)
  3. Post Graduate Diploma: in Population, Public Health and Disaster Management (PPDM).

The core programs of the department are cross-cutting multi-disciplinary programs designed on existing and emerging populations, public health, psychology, and environmental issues. The interdisciplinary programs have adopted an integrated approach and incorporate local and global ecological and climate factors affecting health and population. The programs will cross the traditional boundaries of these disciplines and provide students with a broader platform to gain state-of-the-art knowledge and techniques that are more applicable and efficient to address critical issues at local, national, and global levels.
As the Department of Social Relations is interdisciplinary, it also provides diverse General Education (GEN) courses to all students at East West University.  One of the prime academic missions of the department is to promote Eastern and Western values through its GEN courses. The courses are structured to provide a solid foundation of national & global history, international relations, culture & heritage, and social science principles while allowing choice to appeal to a broad spectrum of interests.
