Economics
Founded in 1998, EWU's Economics department offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, attracting students with its contemporary curriculum, outcome-based education, and field/applied approach. Top-tier faculty, trained abroad, engage in research, policy studies, and regularly hold seminars. The curriculum is designed to be contemporary and socially relevant, with courses aligned with top North American universities and examples often from Bangladesh and South Asia. Students also complete a research project and fieldwork. Core courses cover math, statistics, economic theories, and research methods. Specialized options include energy, blue, law, information, labor, international, environmental, health, and urban economics. A non-economics major is available for interested students. Field experiences, internships, and projects are integrated across the curriculum
The Department of Economics hosts Center for Urban Studies and Sustainable Development (CUSSD) and Entrepreneurship Development Center (EDC) to promote research and applied learning. In addition, the Department of Economics is a focal point for the Himalayan University Consortium of the International Center for Mountain Development (ICIMOD) - an intergovernmental organization consisting of Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, China, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan. The Department also has an MOU with the Asian Center for Development to promote research activities.
Successful Graduates: Alumni are placed in esteemed institutions like BIDS, World Bank, and universities globally.
