International Open Access Week, a global event dedicated to promoting open access to scholarly research, will be held from October 21-27, 2024. Initiated in 2007 as Open Access Day, the event originally began as a partnership between the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) and students who organized local events on campuses across the United States. This year's theme, "Community Over Commercialization" underscores the importance of prioritizing community-driven initiatives and values in the open access movement.

Each year, Dr. S.R. Lasker Library celebrates this week with growing enthusiasm. We have planned the following series of events to engage our community and raise awareness about the importance of open access:

  • Library Decoration: The library will be decorated with themes related to open access and scholarly communication.
  • Social Media Campaign: We will initiate a social media campaign to highlight the significance of open access and share information about our events.
  • Open Dialogue Session and Micro Presentation Competition: We will organize an open dialogue session titled "Community First: An Open Dialogue on Open Access" tailored for early career researchers and emerging professionals. A micro presentation competition will also take place during this session, encouraging participants to share their insights and experiences on open access.
