Workshop on Integrated System: Koha and Greenstone digital library software was conducted in the National Library & Archives
Five day training workshop on Integrated System: Koha and Greenstone digital library software was conducted in the National Library & Archives of Bhutan from 24th to 28th March 2014 at Thimphu. This was in follow up and implementation of the decision taken by the Digital Library Network South Asia (DLNetSA), a regional libraries’ consortium of South Asia. The resource persons were: Ms Dilara Begum, Head of Library, East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh/ Secretary General, DLNetSA and Mr. Md. Mamun-Or-Rashid, Assistant Librarian, East West University, Bangladesh.
While the main purpose of the training was to create an operational and sustainable digital library network with focus on providing support for integrated library system and digital library activities with use of Koha and Greenstone Digital Library software, it was also aimed to achieve following objectives:
- To form an active focal point in Bhutan for the DLNetSA activities
- To create awareness among the library professionals and libraries in Bhutan about the digital library and automation in libraries
A total of twenty library and IT professionals from the Royal Institute of Management, Semtokha, Royal Thimphu College, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk PublicLibrary, Paro College of Education, Ugyen Wangchuk Institute for Conservation of Environment, Bumthang, College of Science and Technology, Rinchending, Phuntsholing, Royal Society for Protection of Nature, Bhutan National Institute of Law, College of Education, Samtse and the National Library & Archives participated in the training. According to the feedback from the participants the training program was successful.
