Closing Ceremony of Training Courses on Digital Library System held at EWU

Closing Ceremony of training courses on "Establishment, Administration and Maintenance of an Integrated Digital Library System” held at East West University on 24 February 2015. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, Founder Vice Chancellor, East West University and Former Governor, Bangladesh Bank graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. and Dr. M Aslam Alam, Secretary, Bank and Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh remained present as Special Guest in the closing program. Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor, East West University chaired the Program. Dr. Dilara Begum, Librarian, Head of Library, East West University and General Secretary Digital Library Network of South Asia (DLNetSA) coordinated the program. The guests emphasized on importance of digital library and proper human resource development for sustainable digital libraries in Bangladesh. Certificates were distributed among the participants at the program.

The 10-day training courses were organized in two phases from 11-24 February and 23 March - 06 April, 2015 at East West University at the request of Bank and Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Finance. 41 Officials (Library & IT) of 23 Government and Autonomous Bank and Financial Institutions of Bangladesh participated at the courses. EWU Library team served as the resource person in the training courses. The training covered Digital Library Overview, Library Management Software: Koha, Greenstone Digital Library Software and MARC21 Cataloguing. The courses were conducted in hands-on and interactive way. The participants were enthusiastic about the new technology in library and information centers.
