The Representation of Women in English for Today (EFT) for Classes IX-X
Abstract:
This article aims to analyze the representation of women in English for Todcry (EFT) used for teaching classes IX and X. As ELT practitioners, teachers have a special responsibility to promote cultural awareness, gender equality and the positive treatment of women. With women teasing being on the rise in the country to an alarming level, the topic of women and culture in the context of EL T becomes relevant anew to be introduced through EFT in as early as class IX. This might be a major step to stop and prevent the abuse of women. "It is clear that course book assessment is fundamentally a subjective, rule of thumb activity, and that no neat formula, grid or system will ever provide a definite yardstick" (Sheldon, 1988: 245)
