Abstract:

SRS is one of the prerequisite for the user centered application design. As an essential requisite to the analysis of the Dhaka University Library, the study aims at exploring the existing functionalities and determinant objects. It also explores the existing inconsistencies and anomalies that hinder the resource management in the library. At present the Dhaka University Library is running semi-automated manner with commercial software named GLASS- Georgia Libraries for Accessible Statewide Services. The proposed system will include full function automated system with integrated database including automated acquisition, processing, serial control, and circulation systems. The system will also have provision for full-text database and institutional repository as well as some peculiar modules e.g. manuscript management, digitization of ancient rare collection etc. Discontinuation of accession numbers, absence of stack management systems, decentralized library operations with little coordination etc. are identified as main problem areas.
