Dowery and Domestic Violence Against Married Women: A Social Inquiry
The paper is based on the findings of a research study undertaken in Dhaka city. The study was of a descriptive design that concentrated on exploring the facts related to domestic violence (human rights abuse) against married women. Major objectives of the study were to investigate the nature of domestic violence associated with dowry and explore consequence of dowry based abuses in the lives of married women. In the study. In total of 65 married women (dowry victim) were selected using the method of convenience sampling from whom primary data were collected. In the study, a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods and tools for data collection and analysis were used. Finding of the study reveal that dowry victims were abused in terms of psychophysical mistreatment, economic deprivation and social abuse by their husbands or other family members. From the-results discovered, the study concludes that women who were weak, powerless and had no rights to command family properties because of vulnerability to bio economic insecurity dependency. On husbands or other family member confronted a wide range of women abuse. However, the most relevant issues relating to dowry-based violence including its consequences within the context of human rights violation have been addressed in the paper.
